HAWKE'S JBAY MEETING STEEPLECHASE GOES TO JUAN. By Telegraph—Spccial Correspondent. , Napier June 24. , The weather was flno but overcaßt for tho second day of the Hawkc's Bo.y Jockey Club, in conjunction with tho Hawkc's Bay Hunt Club, winter meeting. The sum of £29,970 went through tho totalisator, compared with £25.610 last year, an increase of £4368. Tho total for tho two days amounted to £58,629, as against £47.205 for the two dayß' racing last year, an increase of £11,424. Backers had a good day, and BCYoral favourites were Buccesaful. Signysian and Sir Agnes wore withdrawn from the Hack Hurdles, Mannish being a slightly better favourito than Ore Ore. Strangeways set a fast pace for a mile, \tllcn Ethiopian and Revocation collared him. In ths etraight the favourite came through,- and won • comfortably from Ethiopian, witlt Revocation close up. Ore Ore was fourth. Jacaranda was the only withdrawal from the Hack Steeplechase, Slumix a warm order on the machine. After an interesting race, Notability nnßaed the post first, but he was disqualified because his rider missed a fence.- Juan was placcd first, and Slumix second. For boring in the straight, A. Trlcklcbank, ridor of Slumix. was suspended for threo months. Master Webster fell. Tho Hunt Club Cup went to Sturdee, who started second favourite. The topweight, Bill, was-a good favourite, but when looking like petting accond ho fell at the last fence. Bollin was going well in front, but -hie rider did not know that thore was another lap to go, and he nulled his mount oil at the double, and made for the winning post, Ho realised his error too late, and his mount was pulled up. Thero was a field of twenty-ono in tho Hack Handicap, and the public elccted Sanacre as favourite, and after a very close finish h». boat the sccond favourite, Sir Fanciful, by a head, with I'iropiro a further head away. Yankee Dan, viio led 'till well into tho straight, was fourth. The winner is 'verv smart, for he canio from a long way back, and eeemed •to maks no trouble of the journey. All Over was voted the beet, of enorl tilings for tho Bracelet, Pirouiro being the only scratching. The favourite was in a handy position throughout, and after allowing Persian Prince and Loch Dliu lo lead him into the straight, he camo away on the out aide and won by several lengths from Powder King. Tatinii was a poor third. Persian Prince finished fourth. All Btartcd in the Hunters' Flat Handicap, the public sorting out Signysiun as the best of things. The judgment .was correct, for tho top weight made light of the opposition, and taking charge at the bottom of the straight he ran in an caa.v winner from Tornea, who led for the greater part of the journey. Better Luck was a fair third,
There was a record pool for Hastings in the concluding event, there Being over £1000 on Bagdad. Comedy Prince.' srrt Goidfhine. The first-named was chopped out at tho start, and Hookah led Goldshine into tho straight. Then Arch Salute dashed out on tho outside, and after a good finish he beat Goldshlne bv a ucck.
