BOWLS
AN EXTRAORDINARY MOTION. A good deal of surprise was caused among the members of the Wellington Bowling Club on receiving notification that Mr. J. D.Sievwright intended to move, at tho annual meeting, for secession from the Wellington Centre, and the discussion on the motion on Tuesday evening -was awaited with interest, Mr. Sievwright, in moving to the above effect, said that he felt impelled to bring- the motion before the meeting, chiefly owing to tho numerous occasions on which the contro commandeered tho green during the seaeon, to tho detriment of the interests of members, who perforce had to Btand by and look on from the bank. He had hoard many complaints from members to that effect for years past. , Mr. J, ,T. Roberts, the late secretary of the contro, explained exactly how tho clubs 6tood in regard to the centre. Mr. Blcvwright complained that tho green had been commandeered by the centre to tho detriment of members. .How could that bo the case when the Wellington Club alwayß put in more entries than would All tho greens occupied? If the club were to secede from the centre, it must, at onco give up anv thought of playing In the' pennants, the winhlmr of which Mr. Sievwrieht had been so keen on a few minutes before, and it would not be able to take part in tho Dominion Association's touxnnmentß, as a club to do so bad to belong to a centre. As to representation of the clubs on tho centre, the renrcsentation was exactly an Mr. Slevwright had . advocated-one delegate tram each club. As to tho members objecting to the use of the green, he remembered on one occasion when a final game had been played elsewhere thero waß-Quite a- lot of feeling, even amongst tho old members who came up or an afternoon, that the centre had decided to play the game on another eroon. Mr. Slevwright had thought that tho unexpended/ balance of tho centre should bo spent on the improvement of tho greens. Mr. Roberts said that the unexpended balance from laßt year was is. 6d.. so if it were divided between the clubs they would each got about 4*d. to spend on the improvement of their greens.
Ijater in the discussion Mr, Sievwright referred to the fact that the secretary of the centre was paid a salary of £25 a year. Mr. S. H. Underwood (the secretary of the centre): "Guineas."
' Mr. Sievwright said that rush money was derived from the clubs' contributions, ut which stage he was nulled up by the ehairmnn (Mr. M. Carr) and cautioned that he must not be personal. Mr. Sievwright maintained that finan. clal matters could not be considered pernonal. Mr. D. Skinner declared that what Mr. Sievwright was savins was in tho worst tintn, is was everything he said. .Mr. Roberts, correcting Mr. Sievwright, said that the secretary was not paid a ealary. He received a bonus, and tho money did not come out of tho contributions of clubs to tho centre, but out of the entrance money from rinltß at tho annual tournament. Many members expressed tho view that the centre had dono splendid work. "I have only .1 few words to bjiv." said Mr. T. Hush, "if the members wißh this club to sink to the lowest and meanest in New Zealand thi>v will support Mr. SievwHghtln motion." Finally the motion, which had been seconded pro forma, was neeatived unanimously, not even the voice of its mover being raised in support. PETONE CENTRAL CLUB.
