NOTES AND COMMENTS
By Glencok,
The Napier Park Racing Club's Winter Meeting will be opened to-morrow and concluded on Saturday. For the Winter Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club, 6000 sovs. will be given in stakes. The Wellington Steeplechase, remains at 1000 sovs. but the Winter Hurdles will bo worth 750 sovs., and tho: Parliamentary Handicap 500 sovs. Sovoral inoreases have been made in the other events, entries for which close on July 2.' A message from Chrlstchurch states that '■ Amythaa has been sold to<an Indian buyer at 8000 guineas. . . After his good Ehowing at Wanganui itcan be expected that Manhattan will 1 avu plenty of support in the Hack Steeplechase at tho Napieiv Meeting. Formerly Manhattan was a very wild jumper, but since going into W. M'Kinnon's charge ho has quietened doivn considerably.^ 'Apparently Lollah Eookh docs not do as well in a race as she does on tha tracks, for though she has been well fancied on several occasions she is> still a maiden. The Stead-owned Ally is well enough bred for any company, being by Ferainorz from Class, dam of Bon Ton, Eligible and Co. Desert Gold's half-brother CroeMia, who has been spelling since the New Year, is to bo given a race in the Stewards' Handicap at Napier to-morrow. He is top weight, with lOst. 131b., and though he gen-, erally does not chine over a mile courso the flejd .on this occasion is not a strong one, and if the sting is out of the ground the old fellow should give a good account of himself.
Hondra, who has not raced for over twelve months, is to be glyen a run in the Moteo Hack Hurdles at Napier tomorrow. The field, is not a strong one and the black gelding would only have to run up to his best form.to bo very dangerous. He has already won a iiack hurdle race on this course.
Tho Porirua jumpers, .Coldstream and Master 'Webster, in chnrgo of J. H. Grosser, were railed to' Napier on Monday. They were accompanied by a full-brother to Ngatoa, who. Is to be qualified for hunters' events.
Messes F Holmes, J. Bryce, and M. Edwards will leave at the end of this -.vcek for a trip to New South Wales. Some little time ago it was reported from south that Gloaming had been sold to bo to India, but owing to the gelding not passing the veterinary test the deal was called off. Another Terslon of the sale is nxuv given by "SenMncl," in the "Otago Witness," as follows:—"Gloaming waß prac_tloally sold to go to India, but the fact of him playing up on'.the track at Eiccarton when the representative of the buyer was there to see him gallop was the cause of tho deal being: unconeluded."
