NOTES AND COMMENTS < By Glencob. Owners are reminded that entries for all events at the Winter Meeting of tho Hawke'a Bay Jockey Olub, closo on Friday next. Weights for the first day's handicaps at tho Napier meeting will be mado publio on Saturday next, and acceptances closo on the following Tuesday. The Gisborne meeting will open to-mor-row and will be concluded on Saturday. Tho club will suffer by tho embargo of the Seamen's Union to carry horses, and the meeting will be for local horses only. Amongst the horses to race in the Maiden event at Gisborne to-morrow is Over There, a full brother to Gazlquo. Over There seems to be possessed of extraordinary pace, and at Hastings in the autumn he. surprised . everybody by leading for five fifi-longa in the Hawko's Bay Stakes. Tho Winter Meeting of tho Auckland Racing Olub will bs concluded to-day. Amongst tho runners in the Tamakl Steeples at Ellerslio to-day, are Oakleigh, winner of the Maiden Steeples, and Totara Jack, winner of tho Hunt Club Cup. Tho last-named has a pull of 191b. in tho weights, and should be able to account for Oakleigh. When racing prominently in the flack Hurdles on Monday Deviation fell a furlong from home. Tho. Rototawa-bred horse may bo expected to complete tho course without mishap to-day. . Private advices received from Ellerslie state that Gold Kip is expected to do a lot better to-day than he has done for some time past. The chestnut, gelding ib a smart performer whon at his best. Slowcoach, a place-getter behind Locholla in both the Great Northern Hurdles and Steeplechase, may probably go out a good favourite in the Winter Steeplechaso to be run to-day. ' For a maiden performer Mill o' Gowrie covered herself with glory by her good showing behind Lochella in the Great Northern Hurdles. R. Hannon's maro will have plenty of support if she is saddled up for tho Campbell Hurdles to-day. In the Visitors' Handicap at Ellerslio to-day H.' Gray will rida Golden Bubblo and A. Oliver will havo the mount on Asterina. The jjair aro smart beginners and the.contest between them should bo an interesting one. , 7 ..
