CHARGE OF MURDER
MAORI IN CUSTODY. By Tolcsraph—Press Association. Whangarei, Juno 2. Wireniu 3?ite, a returned Maori soldier, was formally charged at tlie Wliarigarei Court this morning with the murder of Douglas Kaupeka, another relumed Native soldier, by shootingat Mokau, in tho Heloiia Bay district, on Suiulay last. 'l'ho caso was at first supposed to be one of suicide, but it has since been stated that the gun was found lying behind the deceased on a. bed, and that other indications disposed of the suicide theory. No particulars were revealed in the Court, and tho accused was remanded for eight days on the application of the police.
