WAR AND OTHER PENSIONS
LAST YEAR'S PAYMENTS. By TeleEraDli—Press Association Dargaville, June 2. Tho Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister of Public Works and Defence and Post-master-General] arrived in Dargaville on Tuesday morning, and during the day several deputations were received. t In the evening a smoke concert was tendered to the Minister by tho Mayor members of various local bodies. There, was a large attendance, and the -Mayor (Mr. R. E. Horublow) presided. The following figures in regard to war pensions were given by the Minister:—To March 31 last permanent pensions to soldiers totalled 2130, of an annual value of ,£1215,510; average pension <£59 per annum. Temporary pensions,' <£23,141, value .£1,223,34:!, average .£52; dependants' pensions 1517, value ,£88,473, average .£SB; widows' pensions 2075, value •£235,G96; children's pensions 1152, average £115; other dependants of deceased 5705, value .£192,347; children 2315, average ,£34; total number 34,571, value .£1,865,245, averago per annum The payments made in respect of war pensions during tho year ending March 31 last amounted to .£1,773,642, and the total amount paid by the Department last year was; War pensions ,£1,773,642; old age,' ,£732,9CG; widows', .£136,815; Maori war pensions, £15,095; miners" pensions, iC16,652; total <£2,705,160.
