A RUNAWAY'S CAREER
MAN INJURED AND MOTOR-CARS BUMPED. A runaway horse drawing a light delivery cart owned- by Barber. and Co., butchers, yesterday careered down Woodward Street, across Lambton Quay and on to the footpath in front of tho Midland Hotel, where it knocked down Charles Green (a waiter from tho hotel) and caused him to receive severo cuts and bruises about the face. It wa6 only by great good fortune that two more men were not hurt.
Apparently the horso was in the stable yard when it broke away and ran into tho Btreet. Two motor-cars were standin;,' in front of tho Midland Hotel, and ns the cart went on to tho footpath, travelling south, it grazed the rear of the first car and barely missed Mr. Dwycr (manager .of tho hotel) and .1 porter, who happened to bo almost against the car at the time. Green was farther along, and ho was unlucky enough to be run over. The second motor-ear had its back- mudguard struck' and badly buckled, and a, temporary verandah-post at tho corner of the hotel was partly displaced as the runaway quitted the pavement and inado for the" other side of the street. Opposite Ferguson and Osborn's premises tho horse was caught and brought to a standstill without much difficulty. Tho accident happened shortly after midday. Dr. Hardwick-Smith attended Green, and decided that ho was quite fit to bo sent homo a few hours later.
