COTTON GROWING
PROSPECTS FOR THE INDUSTRY IN QUEENSLAND. (Rec. May 19, 10.30 p.m.) London, May 18. Mr. E. G. Theodore, Promier of Queensland, told the Australian Press Association thnt he had no doubt that Queensland would now take up the matter of cotton growing seriously. The present high prices of cotton and the likelihood 1 of their ruling for a considerable time justified the experiment, and made cotton picking less dependent on cheap labour than formerly. During his v,isit to America, Mr. Theodore investigated cotton-growing in California, where tho conditions closely approximated those in Queensland. The investigations convinced him that it was tolerably certain that Queensland would make cotton growing a success.—Press Assn.
