ACCIDENT IN LAMBTON QUAY
MAN COLLIDES WITH TAXI-CAB. A serious accident occurred in Lainbton Quay, outside Hie South British Insurance Company's office, about twenty minutes past six last nhj'ht, os a result of which a man named William Cox was admitted to the Hospital in an. unconscious condition. , ; It appears that Cox was crossing the road as a taxi-cab, driven by William Hall, was proceeding in the direction of Willis Street.at a speed of 12 miles per hour. The taxi-driver did not notice the man until foe was fairly close to him, when ha sounded his horn and swerved the' car in order to ,avert a collision. Though Hall acted promptly, on accident was not avoided! for Cox suddenly fell forward, striking the right front mudguard of the motor-car. The car did not pass over Cox,'but the impact threw him Iwckwards. Hall pulled his car up within a distance of six yards, and went back to' render assistance to Cox, whom bo found to be unconscious. He carried the injured man.into the passage in the South British Insurance Company's premises, and Dr. Young was summoned. Upon arrival the doctor found (that Cox was suffering from concussion of the brain find injuries to both legs, and bo ordered his removal to tho Hospital. Constable Graeey rang up for the Hospital ambulance, but as some time elapsed before this was available he conveyed Cox to the Hospital in the Harbour Board's ambulance. The man was fitill unconscious when admitted to the institution, and subsequently an operation was performed.
