PROHIBITION

• GENERAL BOOTH'S VIEWS. Apropos of the statement credited to G'oneral Booth, and recently cabled from Australia, in respect to prohibition, Commissioner Hodder has received a cablegram from illie General's secretary, correcting the reported opinion as follows: -"Asked if prohibition was shortly probable in the United Kingdom, the General expressed doubt as to the possibility of enforcing so great a change on one section of the population unless carried by such an overwhelming majority as seems improbable at present." The statement referred to, which was tabled from Melbourne, was that General Booth, asked about his attitude towards prohibition, 6aid he would like to see Australia dry, but was not sure whether the will of one section should bo forced on others.
