WIRELESS "DIRECTION FINDING"

BRITISH ACHIEVEMENTS,

Eloquent testimony to the skill of British wireless operators was paid by Gaptain'Hound .in a paper read before tho British Institution of Electrical eers on "Direction and Position Finding." During' Zeppelin raids it was of tlv3 highest importance for the British authorities to be able to locate the position of the raiders,' and this was done by special instruments improvised with equal haste and ingenuity. In course of time a "fool-proof direction finder was evolved in which the work of the ator became easy and almost mechanical. Captain Hound remarks that tlie operators were not nearly so bappv w.tli these as with the early types where continuous adjustments were required. "I vumor say too much," ho states, "for the high standard of all the operators \yith whom. I camo into contact. Some of tlie "men showed very great interest in the growth of tho subject technically, and irony valuable suggestions came from t-liem. The progress thus made for war purposes is beinff '-n to ensure the safety of aerial travel."
