BOWLING
♦ THE PALMERSTON TOURNEY BEYNON'S (PETONE) TEAM WITHDRAWN By TeleirraDh.—Special Correspondent. Palmerston North, April '?. In consequence of the heavy rain which fell all day, play was suspended in the Manawatu Centre's bowling tournament.
As the game between Beynon (Petone) and Wyllie (Newtown) was unfinished—the former having scored 12 to B—and as the Petone men were anxious to get away, a suggestion was made that the unfinished game should be played in Wellington by April 17, 1 and that the winner should then play the rink skipped bv Scrivener (St. John's). This Beynon declined, and his team consequently withdrew from tho contest.
If the weather is-sufficiently fine, Wyllie (Newtownl and Scrivener (St. John's) will play the final to-morrow. Regret is expressed at the Petone team being unable to finish the match, as they had a very good chance of winning. They are the club's second string, and are generally known as the "scrapiron" team, but they proved themselves good enough to put down the club's crack team in the section play.
