NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
SHOULD THEY BE TENABLE AT . PRIVATE SCHOOLS? At present, subject to the approval of the Education Department, National scholarships may be tenable at private secondary 6chools. A communication fiom the Auckland Education Board was considered at the meetinrxif tlio Wellington' Board yesterday. This expressed the northern board's disapproval of the practice, and asked for endorsement of its attitudo by the Wellington Board. Mr It. M'Callum (Blenheim) stated that the practice had been in vogue for somo time, and he quoted the case of the Wnnganui College, which was a private college. ~ ~ The chairman (Mr. T. Forsyth) said that the attitude of tlio Auckland Board had his approval, and lie moved accordingly. „ . .. Mr. C. J. Harlmess, in seconding the motion, said that he did not think that these scholarships were created by the State for the benefit of private schools. The motion was passed without further discussion.
