RAILWAY TO" MINE OPENED. f On March 8 the Beef ton Coal Company's railway line from Hcefton station, through Bush Hill, to.the company 8 property, was opened for traffic, lno company, whose head office is in Wellington, has been working its mine for nearly three years, turning oub on the average 150 tons of coal per weox. Since a the completion of the railway line -the ( output has increased to 200 tons per day, t and on ? the completion of. the storage t bins, in about three months, the output ( | should be some 2000 tons a week. c A large party made the journey from £ Wostport, and those present at the open- r ing ceremony included Messrs. T. 11. c Lee (managing director), C. AV. Tring- t ham (chairman of directors), Ayeon (en- 1: ! giheer), M. Fagan (secretary of the Min- c ers' Union), J. K. Lowe (district en- j gineer of railways), and Cameron (dis- s trict traffic mnnager). Speeches were t maiie Tiy Messrs. Trlnghain, Ayson, and Cameron. Mrs. Lee, amidst applause, drove the last spike in. and Mrs. Tringham cut the ribbons to allow the engine to pass through.
