PRICE OF BREAD
GOVERNMENT TERMS ACCEPTED.
The question at issue - 'between, the master bakers ijnd the president of the Board of Trade (Mr. Massey) regarding the price to be charged for bread has been settled by the adoption by the linkers of the proposals of the Prime Minister, with the modification of an additional farthing for delivery, which increase Mr. Mas--Bpv had already agreed to. Mr. Massey stated yesterday that the Dominion representatives of the masters bakors had had a further conference with tluv Board of Trade, and the bakers, had agreed to tho proposals of tlio Government, vifc., that the increase in tho counter price was to be id. per 21b. loaf and }d. on bread delivered, over tho prices ruling in February last. A-comprehen-sive statement showing in detail the cost of manufacture of bread and the returns msdo from its salo is to be supplied monthly by each master baker to the Board of Trade, and if, after examination of these statements, it is shown that the prices fixed are not equitable the position will be reconsidered 'by the Government; The new prices will operate tnroughout the Dominion as from to-morrow, and are general in their application.
