The fall of the Turkish Cabinet and the calling on Izzet Pasha to form a Cabj inet have aggravated the seriousness of the Turkish crisis. It is noteworthy to recall that Izzet Pasha lias, been notorious hitherto ns Abdul 1 Haraid's evil genius*. He was tho instigator of the appalling massacres of Armenians under Haraid's rule. and. is now the Nationalist nominee for the Premiership. Meanwhile it may be taken for granted that if tho official reports from Turkey confirm the accounts of the massacres, Allied forces will be dispatched immediately. It is statpd, moreover, that tlio Armenians are well provided with arms, while ns regards future safeguards it is noteworthy that a proposal is now being considered tlint in future the Turkish gendarmerie shall be under Allied officurs. Influential Europeans in Constantinople have informed tho British Government that Turkey will not accept the drafted Treaty, and the temper of the Nationalists is stiffening owing to the decision to leave the Turks in Constantinople.— Aus.-N.Z. (Rec. March 7, 5,5. p.m.) London, March 2. The semi-official draft of the Turkish Treaty forbids a Turkish navy in future, allowing only a few revenue cutters. The Turkish Empire under the Ottoman Government'will contain a population of six million 6\ibiects, compared with thirty millions before the -war.
