The quarterly sitting of the Wairarapa Licensing Committee v-as held at Cmterton on Prulay. Mr. S. P. K ire.. jjm presided, and Xleaßrs. W. Ho\rnrd Booth, W. Udy, W. Miller, and A. Donaid wore also present, An ndjournmen. for,three months in respect to the Lake Ferry Hotel accommodation liccne© was printed, 'and oil extension of time in respect to the Blairlogie Junction Hotel was grouted to Airs. M'Grath until the J,'me sitting. Transfers were as follow.— Royal Oak Hotel, Carterton L. Navlor to li. Morrison; Club Hotel, Cnrtcrton, W. Redmond to T. Holland; Gladstone Hotel, W. Butler to Mrs. 1. Coopor, subject to production of the license. In tho Magistmte's Court at CartertoTi yesterday. Robert Morrison, licensee the Roval Oak Hotel, was charged witll selling liquor on a Sunday morning. The defence was that the liquor was purchased on the previous Saturday, and delivery taken on the Sunday morning. A further charge of supplying liquor to n Native was also heard, the defendbeing that the liquor w.ib for a European. Judgment in both cases was r« served. The animal meeting of the Wairarapa" Egg Circle was held at Masterton on Thursday evening, Mr. G. L. Havue presiding. The annual report and balancesheet were adoplcd, and Hie fnllowin ollicers were elected:—Committee, Messrs. P. J. Pollinghftm, G. L. Hayne ton), A. King, and W Tucker (Cart* ton), and Jordan see-rran and treasurer, Mr. H. M. Boddington; auditor, Mr. E. O. Garrett; delegate to tho New Zealand Poultry. Association Conference, Mr. H. M. Boddington. It was resolved to recommend that a copy of the business of tho conference be printed and circulated among members of affiliated societies. . well-known Masterton auctioneering firm, Messrs. A. J. Cooper, Ltd.. has been acquired by the N.Z. Farmers' Cooperative Distributing Co.. tho new arrangement having taken effect from Pel), ruary 1. Bakers', and Drivers' Unions held a combined picnic on the Solway Showgrounds yesterday. The weather was ideal, and between 200 and 300 union members were present. At tho fortnightly meeting of the Sfnsterton branch of the repatriation Department four ioans for furniture, approximating »£l~O,. were granted. The wages .of one applicant were subsidised pending the expiration of his apprenticeship, and five men were approved as trainees on the Penrose Training Farm. For the purpose of erecting a soap factory. a woollen mill, and a tannery, the Wellington Farmers' Meat Co., Ltd.. recently acquired from the Masterton Borough Council 21 acres of land abutting on the Waingawa Meat. Works, and used in connection with tho borou.fh. abattoirs. An equivalent area of laiw} adjacent to the abattoirs was hando'i over to tho council by way of Three acres of the new ground is to bo ret apart for a flag '(station, and on a portion of tho remainder' the Meat Company has already begun the erection of the new soap works. Tho plans for tho woollen mill are nearly completed. Tim soap works will ho contained in a building three stories high and measuring GO by 100 ft. _ Electric lifts will supply the communication between the floor?, and a special crntcliinu machine and vats will bo installed. The woollen mill will measure 214 bv 300 ft., and will be. one storv high. The latost machinery will be installed to treat tho wool from the time it leaves the sheep's back until it is turned out a finished' product in Hie form of tweeds and blankets. A special scouring machine is even now being erected at the works for tho treatment of greasy wool, and when completed it will bo one of tho largest of ito kind in the Dominion. This machine, together with Another for ridding' the wool of seeds, etc., does away with a preat deal of expense which 'would be incurred were the wool sent to foreign countries for treatment as formorly.
