MANAWATU NEWS.
At a.meeting of the Palmerston, North : Returned Soldiers' Association last night, the following motion was carried:—"That headquarters be asked to approach the Government with a view to having the land settlement of soldiers handed over to the Repatriation Department or some similar body, on account of tho great delay which takes place under the present administration." :
Complaints having been made that tho Returned Soldiers' Association badge was being worn by many people, chiefly women, who wero not entitled to wear it, the secretary of the Palmerston North Association has been instructed to got into touch with headquarters with a view to having such persons brought to book.
The fkrmillers in the swamps in the lower portions of tho Manawatu district have been compelled to increaso the paid for flax-cutting, the "tfork being rendered particularly, arduous by tho presence of blackberry, which is rapidly spreading right through the swamp lands. So fa? as killing is concerned, tho Longbu'rn Freezing Works are now in full swing again after the recont fire which destroyed tho fellmongery. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for treating the skins elsewhere until the fellmongery is reinstated.
