TWO PERILOUS SWIMS.

Waihi, February 25. A small boat in which Joe Gallagher, a Native,-was the sole occupant, capsized in the rollers on the bar at the entrance to the harbour on Sunday last. Gallagher had been fishing outside, and was returning with a boatload of- fish. when his boat was upset. After a, mile 3 swim he reached Matakana, a deserted S Ne\t day, despairing of rescue, ho comroeneed to swim to the mainland, being caught en route in. a whirlpool. After a desperate struggle he reached- tlw Bhore.
