FINED .£2O. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.' Christchurch, February 3. In tho Magistrate's Court, before Mr. S- 13. M'Carthy, S.M., William Smith, a bricklayer, was fined ,£2o_ for bookmaking. ' Auckland, February 3 Allan Dunn, aged five years, a son of Mr. George Dunn, of Northcotc, while playing on the. Northcoto Wharf to-dny, slipped into the sea and was drowned. Two men on the wharf did lot notice the occurrence, and tho deceased's c« mpanion, another lad, either did l.ot see them or lost his presence of mind, as he ran into the township before acquainting anyone of the occurernce.
