THE HARBOUR BOARD. By Telccrapli—Presn AnFooi:ition. Wcstport, January 22. Another large public meeting was held in the Town Hall this evening, when the Mavor (Mr. A. Leaver) read telegrams from the Prime Minister and Mr. H. Holland, M.P., requesting n deputation to come to Wellington as the Prime Minister could not at present visit Wcstport owing to stress of political duties.. It was resolved that the Mayor and Mt. George Powell (member of the County Council) should accompany Mr. Sloo (chairman of the Harbour Board) and Mr M'tntyre (member of Hie Harbour Board and'chairman of the County Council) to Wellington in regard to the llar•bonr Board question also that the deputation should urge the Prime Minister to proceed as rapidly as possible with the construction of the Buller Gorge railway, so as to make available for the market the large coal deposits in the gorge. The meeting also expressed the hope that the Parliamentary party would make Westport a port of call on the way to Samoa.
