MAGISTRATE'S COURT
A number of Boxing Day inebriates wore paraded before Mr.' P. L. Hollings, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morniug. Denis Sloanc, an old offender, was fined 2fls„ in default seven days' imprisonment, for drunkenness; for committing a breach of his prohibition order he was fined i! 3,. the alternative being 14 days imprisonment, and for damaging a. constable's helmet, valued at 13s. Gd., be was fined a further and ordered to refund tlio cost of the helmet. , A fine of, i 3, in default seven days imprisonment:, was imposed on Joseph Johnston, against whom there fl'ero two previous convictions for drunkenness, and for using obscene language near tho Courtenay Place tram terminus he vas fined .£5, the alternative a, month's imprisonment. John Cecil Martin was fined and costs 75., in default one month's ■ imprisonment, for using threatening l-e----iu'tviour in Cuba Ptreelv A fine of £3, in default seven days imprisonment,, was imposed upon Albert Ernest Boyson for drunkenness, there being two previous convictions against him, and lig was fined .£5, with the alternative of. one month's imprisonments for using obscene language * in Cuba Street. ' ' Edward John Garvey and James Wilson, who were -convicted of drunkenness, were each lined 205.; three first offenders were dealt with in the usual lenient manner, and George Frnncis, who w;.s found helplessly drunk in Ghu/.neo Street, was remanded for a few days.
