SAMOAN POLICE

APPOINTMENT FOR CHIEF-DETEC-TIVE BODDAM. Chief-Detective T. Boddam, of Police Headquarters, has bsen selected to fill ono of the two special appointments in the Samoan Constabulary required under the new constitution. Theso appointments wero crcated as a result of tho Samoan constitution legislation passed last session. Tlio Samoan Constabulary is distinct from the New Ztaland Police Force and is nndor tho control of the Minister of External Affairs, who is .also Minister of Defeace. Tiie assistants of two spMially qualified officers was applied for from tho Police Department, and Chief-Detective Boddam has been selected as the chief of the two. During the period Chief-Detective Boddam will bo at Samoa lie will bo supernumerary to tho New Zealand l'olico Force, as in tho case of all other civil servants who avo going to take up positions at Samoa. Tho selection of tho officers to fill these police appointments rests upon two circumstances—(l) that the officers selected are fully qualified to fill the position, and (2) that they volunteer for the work. The second appointment lias not so far been made.

Chiof-Detcctivo Boddam has licen stationed in Wellington for the past four vears, and prior to that was stationed at New Plymouth.
