MR. JOHN COLLINS TO BE SECIiETAItf. The appointment of Mr. John Collins lo the post of Secretary for Industries (iikl Commerce, is aunouncod. Mr. Collins, who has been secretary to the Board of Trade since its establishment, will now be the chief administrative officer of_the new Department of Industries and Commerce created under the Board of Trade Act passed last session. Before holding the appointment of secretary to the Board of Trade, Mr. Collins wits Chief Clerk am! Doputy-liogistrar of Industrial Unions at the Labour Department, and his long experience with the Labour Department and tho Board of Trade has given him a knowledge of New Zealand industries and commerco that fow men have had the opportunity of acquiring. . Ho was recently clioseii, along with Mr. A. M. Adams (Chief of tho Munitions and Supplies Department) to go upon an investigatory mission to Australia, where he and his colleague made inquiries regarding trade and ol her matters affecting the oost of living. Mr. Collins has been secretary to many in-portant commissions appointed by the Government, including the Cost of Living Commission, of 1912. lie lias been closely associated with the Board of Trado in all its investigations. Mr. Collins is <i native of Wellington.
