Major-General Sir Edward Chaytor, who commanded the Australasian Mounted Division in Palestine, is at present 111 Wellington.
At its. meeting last evening the Victoria Collgro Council passed a resolution recording its deep regret at the doath in London of Mr. J. W. Joynt, M.A., for many years liegistrar of tho University of' Sew Zealand.
Tho death occurred at 'Wellington yesterday of Mr. Kobert Pettit, who, as a member of the staff of tho Union Company's eoal department, was a familiar Wro on tho waterfront. Some days ago Mr. l'ettit strained his heart, and, although in fmo health otherwise, ho did not recover from the elfects of the strain. He was about 08 years of age, and rame to New Mand many years ago as a boatswin on a. sailing ship. At its meeting yesterday tho Education Board confirmed the following appointments:—Fornridge, assistant, Miss A. B. Freeman; Manakau. assistant!, Miss M. Malcolms Brooklyn, assistant, lli.-s M. Arthur; Clyde Quay, assistant, Miss M. r JI. Byers; P.etoue West, .assistant, Mies 1. M. Hansen.
Tho Scotch granite cross orected by Kugby footballers on tho gl'avo of tho lato Mr. D. D. Weir at Ivarori will bo unveiled on Sunday next, at 3.30 p.m. It is the Miitention when making implements at the Athletic Park shortly to erect n drinking fountain for players there. This will 'likewise bo dedicated to Mr- Weir's memory.
