USE FOR POISON' GAS
TO DESTROY GARDEN AND FAEM PESTS. Peculiar and valuable qualities, it is eaid, have been discovered in poison gas es tho result of long experiments, chiefly by agricultural chemists. When applied to the land the gas kills all the things it ought to kill, and none of those it ought not. AVire-worms and millipedes die instantly, as do all the tribe of noxious insects, but that kindly and invisible life which makes the fertility of the Boil remains undamaged or is even benefited by the application. Tho beneficial soil bacteria are relieved of all noxious competitors, and so flourish immensely. There is no do;ibt about the facts. They have been tested by repeated experiments, and England possesses many thousand tons of this gas, which is in liquid form, and as a liquid harmless. Nor does it becomn vapour or gas easily. The only reason why all this poison gas is not immediately available for chemically clearing the soil of England is foar of the unscientific ways of the users. Though virtually harmless as a liquid, it "would Iμ inadvisable to drink or wash in it, or even to hold your head over it for long; but scientifically used it entails no real risk, and is ideal for garden and farm purposes. In the torn of gas it is deadly to rats and mice, but no safe wny of using tho gas against them has yet been perfected.
