RICCARTON TRAINING NOTE PHENOMENAL GALLOP BY GLOAMING. By Teleerarh—Special Correspondent. Christchurch, November 11. Somo interesting work was done at Riccarton this morning. Tho trial grass was open for fast work, and was used freely, while a number of horses sprinted on the plough, and ono or two were allowed to use the oulsido of the course proper.' The onlookers had the pleasure of seeing the greatest milo gallop that has been done at Riccarton for many years, if not tho best since the course was.formed. Gloaming, with shoes on, carrying I). Deeley, and on the outside of tho course proper, cantered round until Hearing tho mile peg. Jumping off, he ran his first furlong in 11 3-ssec., two in 23 i-ssec, throe in 35 4-sscc, and half a mile in 48 4-sscc. Running on strongly against the fresh north-east breeze, ho raced past the winning post in the phenomenal time of lmin. 39 2-ssec, having covered the last half-mile in 50 3-ssec. Winter Wind finished well clear of Moorfowl at the end of tlireo furlongs in SCsoo., on the plough, and Link Up ran four furlongs in 50 2-ssec. on the same course. Onslaught was going better than Nightraider at the end of live furlongs, on the plough, in 62 4-ssec. Starlike defeated Grim Joke over half a milo in 50 3-ssec, and Rose Wreath pleased by running a milo in lmin. 43 Msec., and finishing well. Both galloped on tho plough. ©ay Lad, who was to have sprinted ftvn 'furlongs, took charge of his rider and galloped a strong mile, the last seven in lmin. 32 2-ssec. Ho was sore afterwards. Desert Gold sprinted on the trial grass. Bon Spec did a round on (ho plough at strong half-pace. Achilledes jumped two flights of hurdles splendidly. Con tho Shaughran baulked several times and was. afterwards schooled over the ponies, where he could not run off. St. Winnow Tan the last five of a sixfurlong's gallop in Gdsec, on tlio plough. Maioha covered four furlongs on the plough in a tick under 50scc.
