Tho New Zealand -Metropolitan Trotting Club's Spring .Meeting opened in glorious weather, but the fresh breeze blowing had a tendency to ljaise the dust. Tho track was in excellent order, and the attendance constituted a record. The sum invested on the Cup, ,£IG,U7 10?., is the largest amount ever haudled by the totalisalor on any race in (he Dominion. After the event the Countess of Liverpool presented the Cup to Mr. \Y. H. Norton, the owner of'Trix Pointer. During the day tho totalisator handled ,£7ti,291, as compared with «!i52,0!)l ,10s. on tho corresponding day last year. Moneymaker went off smartly, and soon established a considerable, break, Erin's Queen and Mintson being his nearest attendants. Agathos broke at the end of a. mile, and was not persevered with. Three furloiil's from home Erin's Queen moved up to Moneymaker, and Tris Pointer commenced her run. Staying on beautifully, the last-nametf drew away, and won by four lengths from Moneymaker, Matchlight being a similar distance in front of Erin's Queen, who,beat Sherwood for fourth money by two lengths.
