CITY COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY- MEETING. The 'Wellington City Council met last night, when there were present: Tho Mayor (.Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P.), Councillors G. Frost, A. R, Atkinson, W. H. Bennett. T. Forsyth, M. F. Luckie, G. Shorhind, C. H. Chapman, J. Glover, J. It. Dale, L. M'lvenzie, J. Hutchinson, C. J. B. Norwood, R. A. Wright, M.P., and P. Frnscr, M.P. Tho Finance and Property Committee, recommended; and it was decided, that an offer to sell land at Kaiwarra for quarrying purposes be not accepted.
It was also resolved to make a remission of rates amounting to £2 17s. 2d. on property acquired by the council at Northland.
The By-laws Committee reported that it had received a, deputation from tho Wellington Taxi Owners' Association protesting against the action of the-council in granting private stands in the city. The committee would report on the experiment of allowing private stands after a. trial of three months had been given. In the meantime information was being obtained a.s to the desirab'iity of having the stands balloted for. and the whole question would be revised and reported on to the council at the end of the three months, period. On tho recommendation of the By-laws CmumiHee authority was given for the establishment of motor express stands at: the undermentioned streets: Western side of Allen Street, extending frfom Courtenay Place- northward—lo accommodate seven vehicles; Jervois Quay on - tho eastern side of the entrance to Queen's Wharf—to accommodate forty vehicles.
