ROWING
The opening of the Petone Eowing Club was (held on Saturday last wilder most favourable conditions. The.ro was a large attendance of members and friends from Petone and tho city rowing club?. The water was at its best for rowing, and some very close and interesting finishes were witnessed. Mr. Mothes, president of tho Petone Eowing Club, opened the season, and congratulated members of the various clubs present on their safe return from the war and trusted that the coming season would f"ee rowing back at its old standard. During the afternoon tho lady members of Uio Petone Club provided afternoon tea for the visitors and friends. Tho Petone Band played several good selections during the afternoon. The distance for the races was threequarters of a mile and Wellington Bonding Club was very successful in winning four races and seconded one out of tho five events. Tihe following were the winning crews: Youths' Fours-W.B.C 1: Petone, 2; Star. 3. (L. Bognuda, P. Bogmula, T. Gnddard, G. Grace.) Maiden Fours-W.8.C.. 1: Star. 2: Petone, 3. (C. Svmonds, IT. Hyde, A. Macnulay, M. Batter.), . Mothes Memorial ' Fours—Petone, 1; W.E.C., 2; Star, 3. (Tl. Treniain. W. Shearon, D.nimmond, H. Burridge.) Returned Soldiers' Fours— W.8.C.. 1; Petone, 2. (IT. Hyde, L. Bognudn, Macnulay. M. Baftcr.) Junior Fnurs-W.E.C, 1: Star. 2; Petone, 3. (E. Hayes. H. Hyde, A. Macatilay. F. Bognuda.) 11. Bognudn.. tho W.B.C.'s rog-atta coxswain, steered the club's crew" in all the races'. Tho form of several of the members competing promises a good season for Ihe local clubs at the coming regattas. Paces were rowed in boat? lent by the Petone Bowing Club.
