ME. MASSEY MAKING INQUIRIES. "Is it possible to take any steps to prevent peoplo being turned out of their homes, pending the erection o£ houses ■by the Government?" asked Mr. H. Holland (Grev) in tho House of Representatives. Mr. Holland mentioned tne case of n widow with children, who ihnd been turned/out of a home four times since Christmas. Parents r.nd children were being forced to live in rooms becauso .their homes were bought over their heads. Hhe Prime Minister replied that, it was not possible to turn out a tenant without a magistrate's order. This nrovisinn had been supposed, at tho time Ilia leeislfttinn wax passed, to be a sufficient (safeguard. He was very sorrv the safeguard had proved to be insufficient. "[ have referred the matter to the Crown law officers." added Air. Mn«ey, "to report to me on tie present, position n.nd see whether it i? possible to improve it during this session by legislation."
