Tho roll of the local High School has now reached a total of 122, with an average attendance of 111. On account of ill-health and for business reasons Mr. J. C. Carston has resigned the chairmanship of tho Labour At a meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association, Messrs. Tansley (secretary) and Hennie were appointed to represent tho branch at the K.S.A. cony iorenco at Wellington. Resolutions were passed urging the remission of stamp duty in ; lands transactions of returned soldiers; that the association should continue to take no part in politics; that the Government be again urged to supply fencing wiro and building material to soldiers on land at cost price; that no pensions bo reduced unless the soldier firat appears before a medical board; that no civil porvnnt should be on the executive of tho association; that the Land Board bo asked for an immediate* reply to the association's former letter regarding tho Tiratu ballot grievances. Tho local Repatriation Committee came in for strong criticism. Membora complained of tfio. manner in which certain cases had been dealt with. The inforen'ce wae that favouritism has baeh Biiown Harsh treatment also was iuleged. ' One memfter gave notice of mi.tion that the Minister bo asked to reconstmet the local Repatriation Committee. Messrs. Best and Quigley, soldiers' roprusentativM on tho committee, made explanations and said that probably it would be found that thu fault lay more 'with the Repatriation Department than with tho lucal committee. Mr. Best assured, the men that the committee was out to do its best for npplicnnta. Eventually tli6 notice of motion was withdrawn, but another,. expressing more or less dissatisfaction with repatriation methods was passed. ,
