Mr. E. H. Crab.b, chairman of the Mar ngahao Hydra-Electric Vigilance Committee, told tho Palmerston, Borough Council 'at its last meeting that at the i<ato at which the work was 1 now progressing it would not be only five, but more like, ten, years before the supply of power would lie available. He said there appeared, to be. a feeling of keenness on the part of the Minister on the matter, and members of Parliament also seemed to be sympathetic on the matter, but this did not appear to havu .the desired effect of making itho work go on any faster. A party returning homo from a ball in the early hours of Tuesday morning had a rather unpleasant experience. The motor-car.in which there wero two ladies and two gentlemen, was approaching the railway crossing at Terrace 'End, and owing to the heavy rain falling at the time, the driver failed to notice two heaps of metal which had been stacked of the road. The consequence was that he drove right, into these, and this took steering way' oil the machine, with the result that before he could "■et it' under control, again it dashed across the'railway line obliquely and into the cattle-stop, where the car 6tuck ■fast. All endeavours on the part of the occupants to extricate the car wero-in vain, and it was not until the 1 a.m. train from Palnierston to Woodvillo came along that they were able to tret it out by attaching a rone to the engine and hauling on it. The fore-carnage of the machine was considerably damaged, but the passengers were fortunately unhurt, and in a short time were' on their way home in another-car which had been telephoned for from town.
