SCOW ECHO DRIVEN ASHORE
HIGH AND DRY OX WAIHOA BEACH By Telcicraph—Frete Association. Wairoa, October 7. The auxil'ary scow Echo went ashore on Wairoa beach at I.SO p.m. to-day in had weather. The. vessel left the wharf at 1 oVoek loaded with 450 quarters of i'roF.en meat for transhipment to an overseas vessel at Napier. She negotiated tho bay safely, but a heavy sea caused her ttvbroacli to. Hollers struck her in rapid succession, and the propeller became bnr.cd in the shingle, causing, the bi|{ eiigine to stop, and the Echo was rapidly driven ashore. Fifteen passengers were on board, including two ladies, and wcro drenched and scared. At low tide tho passengers were ablo to get ashore. The vessel is high and dry. An attempt will ho made at high tide to refloat the Echo, assisted by tho Tuatu, which Richardson and Company, the owners of the Echo, art sending i'roni Napier. The vessel is in no danger if southerly weather is not experienced.
