Tlio residents of Martiuborough have presented u gold alliert and medal to Mr, Ji'runk Uunry, who is -leaving the district. The Mnsterton railway station j)oro an animated appearance yesterday, just before the departure of the afternoon train for Wellington. It wns evident that people were losing. no time in taking advantage of the easing of the passenger traffic restrictions. Tlio following are the results of the fust qualifying round for the senior championship of the Masterton Golf Club:—W. 11. Robieson, 90; E. Perry. A. B. Lawrence, GV Perry, Mnjoi , Banks, each 91; A! C. Major, 93; It. Kebell, !)i; J. B«, 99. In'the first round of the junior championship, H. M'Kenzic beat E. M. Bundle; A. Hollings and B. J. Ifcfferson won by default. The mnjority of the members of the Central Band are not in, accord ivith the proposal to amalgamate the two Masterton bands. The general opinion is that there is everything, to lose and nothing to gain by falling in with the idea.. A definite decision will'be .come to, however, in the course of the next few days. In reference to the need for a doctor for the district, it wn9 reported at a recent meeting of the Pongaroa Chamber of Commerce that the County Council had decided.'to apply to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for a guarantee of .£2OO, to be used in making, up the deficiency' if any, on the guaranteed salary of .CIOOO. The council ncresd to be responsible for any deficiency nbove .£2OO. . . The following soldiers who returned recently by the transport Hornruta arrived in Masterton on Saturday evening and : were accorded the usual civic re.ception, Inter being driven to iitjr homes:—Corporal J. A. Welsh. Sergeant G. R. Parsons, Private W. H. Dunn, ' Limee-Corporal IT. M. Ogden, Privates V. Shaw, M'Cormick, W. Pimm, Kayscr, C. C. Hanson, J. Hanley, A. -H. M. Hoar..l ml A. E. Leviclc. Two of the men wero subsequently motored to Pahiatna. The following have been elected officers of Hip- Greylown Bowling Club:—Patron, Sir AValter Buchanan; president, Mr. 1. C. Bunny;. vice-president, Mr. J. F. Thompson; secretary and treasurer. Mr. W. Tully; auditor,' Mr. G. Scrimgeour; general committee. Misses Diddams and Armstrong, Messrs. Day, Walden, Eees, White, and Compton. Mr! Hblnips AVarren, a well-known settler of the AVairarapa, died at his resi-. dence at Turangamii, Pirinon, yesterday morning. Deceased, who had been seriously ill for some time, was nrominent as a sheepbreeder. He had been a men , - liPr of several local bodies, and fit the time of his death was a member <i!' the General Committee of the Mnstertjn A. and P. Association. He is survived by a widow, one-daughter (Mrs. A. B. Marlin, England), and two eons (Messrs. David and Arthur Warren, Pii'inoa).
