SINGERS AND TALKERS FROM AMERICA.

Miss Carson, one of the advance guard of the Chautauqua, is in Wellington again, after having assisted in the organisation of tho whole of tho South Island. Miss Carson informed a DositNiONreporter yesterday that tho New Zealand Chautauqua-was now registered under tho Unclassified Societies' Act, 1908, and was therefore included with other societies in Now Zealand which were not out tor profits or gain. That was to say, that the money mado would be put into tho work, always for its expansion and improvement. Under tho new auspices an Advisory Board of New Zealanders had been set up. This board included Mr. W. J. Napier and tho Hon. G. Fowlds. ot •Vuckland; Mr. C. H. Burgess, Mayor ot New Plymouth; Mr. J. P. Luke, Mayor of Wellington; Mr. John Duncan, of Wellington; and Mr. A. Varney, general secretary of tho Y.M.C.A. It is further reported by Miss Carson that tho Soutli Island (which was not touched last season) has been completely organised from end to end. and tho reception sho received overywhere had been of a mast cordial character. Tho spirit of co-operation and desiro to help had been manifest right through and had mado her work easy and at tho snmo tinio effective. In all the Chautauqua would visit 60 towns in New Zealand (lulling tho coming season, and without marring tho pleasure of anticipation sho believed that tho attractions to bo offered, educative and artistic, would be. sucii that would earn everyones goodwill tor tho Chautauqua. _ Tho speakers would include Dr. A. D. Carpenter, nil astronomer; Judge Allen, formerly of the Mnssnchussctts Bench: Mr M. C. Reed, of tho Civic. Federation Board, n lecturer on "Civics. ;_ and Dr. Gir-scl, a lady lecturer on hygiene. On the. entertainment side there -vrovM bo the I'ciuvick Newull Concert Party, rho Zedlars' Symphonic Quintet (instrumentalists), and- tllp N(W e!llanil JIIUo Quartet (from Auckland). _. . ■ The now Chautauqua, which will.visit four towns at a timo (instead of six as was the case last year), will commence at Auckland on October 22. The Wellington season will extend from December'i to 10.
