The Mavor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors 1!. A. Wright. M.P., J. Glover, A. R. Atkinson. W. H. Bennett, T. Forsyth, M. F Luckie. L. M'Kenzie, J. 0. Wlioriand, W J. Thompson, and C. H. Chapman wero present at last evening'* meeting of the Cif.v Council.

The Outlying Districts Committee recommended :—

"That lie offer of tho trustees of the Methodist Church at Northland to give to tho corporation for street-widening purposes land at the junction of Creswick and Northland Roads, as pegged off oil tho 6ite by corporation officials, bo accepted on the coniiitionß stipulated. and that the trustees be thanked for their offer.-" ■ (The conditions arc tlint the corporation shall erect a conr crete wall and piers along tho street frontage as per plan, and also that tho ■section bo regraded and the wall plastered on all exposed surfaces to the satisfaction of the trustees). "That the various property-owners at Iliirh Street, Island Bay, be written to, stating that provided they a:e willing to carrv out tho work of and formine the street to the satisfaction of the C'itv Engineer, at an estimated cost of about £60, tho council -vill bo prepared to take it over as a public street.' "That the various property-owners adioinimr tho right-of-way at the foot of Cornwall Street, Island Bay, be written to. and asked if they agreeable to' o&v half tho cost of repairing and formine such wav. in accordance with the specifications prepared by the City Unilinear. the respective amounts chargeable to each owner to be lodged witn the council before the work is commenced, in consideration of which iht council will undertake to have the work carried oul | forthwith."

The report was adopted. ' The Reserves Committee reported:— ■'That thev have been waited upon by . a donutation from the Brooklyn Returned Soldiers' Association, who asked that I nnriiiission be granted for the erection of an obelisk at Sugar Loaf Hill, to commemorate tho men of tho district who have fallen in action. A rough sketch of the obelisk has been submitted to the committee, and thev have to recommend that consent bo granted, the d-esign of the memorial to be submitted Mi' final npI nroval before the work is pttc in hand. 1 "That they have visited the land at Island Bay proposed to be utilised as a ' rest park, and they , have to recommend 1 that notices ba served on the tenants ot • tho houses on tho corporation property, and also on that piece of land which js beinsr taken under the Fublu. \\ nrks Act, requiring same to be vacated within one ! month, and that the buildings be sold , by public auction for removal. "That they have received letter trom the Island Bav Electors' Association asking that the council erect boat sheas on tho Island Bay beach and let same out at a yearly rental. The committee are considering the matter in connection with the Cist of works to be forwarded in connection with tho proposed loan proP thev' have authorised the curator of tho Zoo to effect certain exchanges and 6ocuro what specimens ne considers desirable whilst in Sydney." The Tenort was adopted. Tho following recommendations of tho By-Laws and Firo Brigade Committee ! wore adopted:—(l) TJiaf consent be granted to proposed subdivisions of the undermentioned properties, and that the sea] of tho corporation be authorised to bo affixed to tho necessary documents in cwinoation therewith :-Brittoinart Street, Estate, Samuel Wood: Brooklyn Road. To Wera; Watt Street, S. G. Nathan; Williams Street, Hall and. Ivni^ht; Rintoill Street. Mrs. E. Anderson; Avon Street, ■T. O'Donnell; Aro Street. E. Bendnall ; Tinnkori Road and Hawkestone Street, T. E. Anderson. (2) That consent be not srranted with' reference to a proposai for 'the subdivision--of property at Glencoe Street. (3) That consent be granted for the erection of additions to premises Saves Court, Aurora Terra :e, in wood, subject to such conditions as may bo imposed by the City Engineer and the Superintendent of Fire Brigade with-re-ference to the provision of first escapes, and to the construction of internal walls, par- j titions, and ceilings of fire-tesisting ma- j teria.l. (4) That consent, be granted to the Australasian We'Thino; Machine Company to place a weighing machine on tho Oriental Parade, in a position approved by the City Engineer, such consent to ly> subject to tho usual cr.nditions. (5) That a lamp bo erected at Sutherland R«id at. an estimated cost of .-£32, The Finance Committee recommended: That arrangement l ; be .made to carry out the work of formation of Znhrnb Phwt, Kilbirnie. forthwith.
