■ \— r—f : Tho Wellington Executive of the Navy League met this week, Mr. J. B. Hiircourt presiding. Mrs. Darling- reported that the auxiliary >h'oyl considered Lady Dimsdale's appeal for funds to build the 'Women ot tho Empire Memorial Hostel, and it was decided to remit the balance of King George's Fund for this purpose. Mrs. Bradney-Williaros and Mrs. Gibbons were elected to the Education Committee of the league. It was reported by Mr. Keesing that there.was great activity in the school brunches of the league. Flags had been presented at Willis Street School, the Girls' College, Roseneath, Hataitai, Clyde Quay,.Newtown, and the Masterton District High Schools, and amongst those who had delivered addresses were I'lagCaptnin Ramsay (Lieutenant-Commander of E.M.S. New Zealand), Brigadier-Gen-eral Hart, and Mr. Clutha Mackenzie. Tho committee passed n heartv vote ol thanks to the ladies and gentlemen who had given such valuable help in this propaganda work, work which Admiral Lord Jellicoo regarded as of primary importance. Colonel Campbell- and Mr. Darroch reported on the work of the conference, the most valuable outcome of which was Admiral Jellicoe's address on the work of the league in the'future, an address which had been given, a wide publicity throughout the Dominion. * Mr. C. W. Palmer presented to tho league a valuable piece of New Zealand honeysucklo. ( Amongst the correspondence laid before the meeting was a circular letter from the executive in London stating that it had arranged for tho observance I of tho anniversary of "Nelson Day" (October 21) in accordance with the custom that had obtained, since the incoption of the league. The circular states! "It is earnestly hoped that this day will be celebrated throughout His Majesty's Dominions as an occasion of grateful tribute to the brilliant triumph of British sea power. The predominance 01 the British Fleet has, for the first timn in history, .been recognised by all peoples, _ excepting only those of our lata enemies, as a beneficent' influence upon the .affairs of humanity; and it seems that the joyful thabkfl of Briton, throughout the Empire should find expression alike for the wonderful moral victory which lias enlightened tho whola world, and for the material yictorv which, by the grace of God, and with the assistance of our gallant Allies, has been vouchsafed to tho cause of freedom. Tho Navy League trusts that tho forthcoming anniversary will be celebrated as a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving, and that every opportunity will ba taken in public gatherings and in schools of impressing upon the people* tho vital fact that, as in the past, so in the future, the prosperity, of our Empire must dopend upon the maintenance of our supremacy upon the seas." The Wellington Executive decided that the following should be a committee to make arrangements for a fitting colebrntion in Wellington:—Mesdames Darlins and Richardson, Colonel Roberts, ami Messrs. Foster and Keesing. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs. Hall-Thompson, asking Iter to represent the branch at the London celebrations.
