Mr. Seinplo said that recently he travelled from -Wellington to Auckland, niul made inquiries at stations en mile regarding coiil stocks. Ho had found -that lit Franktou J>" lo „ t ' 0 n n l aloue f were between 2500 and 3000 tons of coal. He had been informed l>y railway men and business men right along the line that there was more coal in the yards than over before. The dislocation of tho railway services, said Mr. Somple, was not due solely to shortage of coal. It was due in i part to the fact that verv many engines, cars and trucks were in need oi repair. The railway service had. been run to a standstill.
