BUTTER SUPPLIES
Q NO ACCUMULATION IN STORES. A statement on the amount of butter in the cold etores of the Dominion was made by the Prime Minister yesterday. His remarks wore in reply to tlie suggestion that although there was an acute shortage of butter for local consumption, largo stocks of butter for export were bsiiig held in the cold stores. "At the end of April there were 82.Q00 boxes of butter in store—a quantity far in excess of that usually require'd to meet tho demands 01 the local market during the winter months. But the quantity of butter manufactured eince then has been only about one-third of that usually produced by the factories during the months of Muy, June, July, and August; henco the which could not be foreseen. It is expected, however, that ample supplies will be available for tho local through the usual channels within the next week or ten days, as practically tho whole of the factories have now >commenced operations for the season."
