PETITIONS TO PARLIAMENT. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has petitioned Parliament to re- , view the circumstances iu connection with the appeal of H. N. Longton against deprivation of promotion, ami also to consider the question of abolishing the Minister of Railway's power to veto. The caso was discussed very fully eonie months ago. "* The A.S.K.S. is also asking Parliament by petition to enforce tho retirement of railway servants who have readied the retiring age ami are eligible for a pension of ,not less than Mot). The retention of ilieso men in the service is, the petition states, "blocking . promotion, stifling ambition, defeating'the-object for which the superannuation fund was" established, and preventing younger, me.it with merit and ability from getting that opportunity which is essential if the railways are to progress." The present policy, in the opinion of the society, is not in' tho' best interests of the Jloininiou.. ■ • •' •
