The weather was fine, but the ground was a bit heavy. There was u large attendance. After the first fifteen minutes, in which Southland was unlucky •in not scoring more than once, Otago had the upper hand. The spell ended: Otago, 6 points (two tr.es by Marks and Begg); Southland, ml. !r ; the second half the visitors backs, aided by tine combined work amongst the fo> wards, dominated play, and Holmes _('4 Begg, and Sim, scored tries. Campbell converting one. The final scores' were: Otago, 20; Southland, nil.
