Mr. Brmvnlie, chairman of the Amalgamated Engineers' Society, h<;s written to Mr. Bowcrmnn, Parliamentary Secretary - of. the Trades Union Congress, drawing attention to "tho grave national situation." He says: Only increased production can avert ohnos. The trade unionists cannot' evade their responsibilities to the community, and _ Lwjir leaders must endeavour to alleviate the situation. Merely increasing wages without increasing production will not. serve. Mr. Bowerman 'admits the seriousness •of tlie question he eays: "Trade unionists must concentrate to ensure an increased output."
