Mr. Lloyd George, in a letter to his colleagues, dated August 20, urges tho immediate cutting down of expenditure, for which there is strong feeling in the House of Commons, in the. Press, and in the country. "The time," ho states, "has arrived for each Minister to impress on the heads of the various branches of tho administrative Departments that if they cannot reduce expenditure they must make room for somebody who can. NAVAL CONSTRUCTION SUSPENDED

London, August 26. The Admiralty has suspended the construction of sixty large cruisers, destroyers, and submarines in twenty yards. An expert committee is considering whether tho ships will be broken up or tlie hu.Us completed with a view to their conversion to mercantile purposes, for winch many of the smaller craft are suitable. The suspension 1 of naval ryinstruct'nn work on the Clyde affects 100,000 ) V ® T ] C " men. of whom 2000 will be immediately absorbed in the building of merchantmen. CONTROL OF STATE EXPENDITURE THREE NEW SUB-TREASURY DEPARTMENTS. (Rec. August 27, 2.10 p.m.) London, August 27.
