N.Z. DEFENCE STAFF
TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT BOARD. A board of officer's is to bo established at General Headquarters, New Zealand Military Forces, to deal with questions of appointment, transfer, demobilisation,' reduction, and inspection of temporary. military employees in tlio Defence Department. The functions of this board will 1)0 to: 1. Keep a check 'on the limnber of temporarily employed personnel. 2. Arrango for the inspection of officers and brunches of tho Defence Department where temporary military personnel are employed, with, a view to ensuring that only the minimum number of temporary personnel are used to carry out the duties efficiently. 3. Demobilise tho temporary niilitarj personnel as soon as their services caa be dispeused with. 4. Carry out transfers of 'temporary personnel from one branch of the department to another when necessary. 5. Recommend applications for temporary employment when vacancies occur. It has been decided that when demobilisation is completed the temporary staff in the Defence Department will be dispensed with, or considerably reduced.. A general instruction that : has been issued advises that temporary employees should be encouraged and assisted where possible, to re-establish themselves in civil life. It is also pointed out that, in the interests of economy, the number of employed military personnel _ should bo kept down to the absolute minimum consistent with efficiency. No officer m the Defente Department is authorised to omploy military personnel temporarily without reference to General Headquarters.
