,* : • THE SCHEME OF LIGHTING. A report dealing with the lighting ol Oriental Bay Esplanade was submitted to the City Council lost eight by. the act-ing-general manager of the city electrio lighting department. The scheme, it was pointed out, was for the erection of cast-iron standards on tihe wall, spaced at intervals of:approximately 60 yards, Each standard would carry live lamps, and would be an ornament in the daytime; and at night the effect from the city and coming up tho_ harbour should be very fine and pleasing to the eye. To carry out this scheme it would be necessary to place Hho wires underground, and. the complate cost was csti- , mated The acting-manager said that should it be desired to adopt tlie scheme he considered the capital cost should be a charge on the Oriental Bay Esplanade work, and the maintenance a effarge on street lighting. The report was adopted.
