HUNTLY MINERS STILL IDLE
FEAR OF A SUBSIDENCE. (By Telegraph—Pies! Association.) • Auckland, August 19. The Huntly miners were again idle today owing to • the fear of a subsidence at the mine. The stoppage wag under consideration by the officials and directors of the Taupiri Collieries Company in Auckland today, and at midday the chairman _ of directors, the Hon. E. W. Alison, intimated that such information as the company had been able to get from Huntly ftad been carefully considered, but at this etage it was impossible for the directors to make a statement as to their view of the safety or otherwise of the mine. The mine manager, Mr. Bishop, was due to arrive in Auckland to-mor-row, and they would then be in a position to consider the expert opinion as to the real import of what had occurred. In the meantime, Mr. Alison added, any matter affecting the safety of the mines must be riven the careful consideration it demanded, for iu'matters bearing on the welfare of the workers no risks could be taken. Whether the apprehension of the men was justified had still to ba determined in the light of the expert opinion. ■ . ■
