At a meeting of the committee of the Palmeraton North Returned Soldiers' Association this week the following motion was carried for transmission to headquarters:. "That this branch of the association lias reason to believe that certain organisations which have collected moneys for war purposes have not produced a satisfactory balance-sheet of the administration of their funds, and We urge upon the Minister of Internal Affairs his duty to press fcr the same.immediately." The new hospital-buildings at Palmerston North, which have been in course of erection sinoo about last Christmas, are now well forward, and although Messsrs. Tho demand for land is particularly keen on the Haumki Plains, as is shown by tho fact, that a farmin Tu.rua. which changed hands at .£52 per acre about six weeks ago, bus been resold at .£73 per acre. Sixty dairy cows which formed tho herd on this property realised at auction an average of .£23 Is. per head. So far as To Puke is concerned quite a boom has set in. more especially for town sections. It is A township not as big as Foxton, and sections in somo of the side-streets liavo been changing hands readily at prices averaging <ElB per foot, while in the Main Street as much as £50 per foot has been paid. A largo number of farms are changing hands, several of which have been purchased by Manawatu people at prices which compare very favourably with those ruling for land in this district.
