WAIRARAPA The Black Orpiugton pullet which laid 100 eggs in 108 days at the egg-laying competition in Christchurch, is owned by Mr. James Donald, of To Whiti, Masterton. A representative meeting of Lake View suppliers and Pihautca and Kahaiitara soldier-settlors was held this weok at Pihautea Kosies'.ead. A representative of tho Dairy Division was also present. It was decided to form a new dairy company at lCahautara. Provisional directors were elected, with Mr. J. Jolly as secretary. Mr. W. A. Hutton, Mayor of Greytown, lias been appointed to represent the Greytown Borough Council on the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The first meeting of the committee to superintend the transit of goods to Masterton was held yesterday morning. Twelve applications were dealt with, covering twenty lots of goods, including drapery, foodstuffs, • building material, leather, etc. The tonnage applied for approximated 80 tons. The committee recommended 55 tons as urgent, the remainder to be forwarded if apace is available. A movement is afoot in Masterton to convene a meeting of school committee representatives to urge tho necessity of *. | high school and technical school assepa-. rate institutions and of choosing suitable j sites. At a representative meeting of Carterton business people convened yesterday afternoon by the local Chamber uf v.xiu»merce a committee was set up to work with other AVairarapa committees, in .conjunction with the Wellicgton Chamber of Commerce, and to assist in the transport of essential goods to the. Wairarapa. The committee is to confer with the Masterton Committee on 'Monday night. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last night, there wero present: Messrs.-C. E. Daniell (chairman), K. Krnhagen, A. W. Hogg, C. A. dimming, W. T. Grundy, and D. Caselberg. A deputation from the 'Workers' Educational Association asked for financial assistance. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee to report The chairman reported on a visit of Dr. Anderson, Director of Education, to the town,'and stated that final decision in regard to the proposed school would probably bo received before the next Trust meeting. A letter was received from Professor 11. M'Kenzie. of Victoria University, roportiug the excellent progress of one of the' boneficarics of tho Trust. The report of the I'inanco Committee showed that rents received during the period between July 11 and August 8 amounted to ,£292 to. Bd. Accounts amounting to £V -Is. were passed for payment. Correspondence was received from three students, thanking tho Trust for financial assistance to enable them to pursue their studies. At the reunion of the legol and banking professions and stock and station agents and 'dentists held in Masterton on Thursday evening, Mr. 11. Hammond intimated that he would give a thi'oe- ' guinea cup to be competed for by'members of the two football tennis at a race to be run ai'tor the match. In the Magistrate's Court at Carterton yesterday Arthur IT. Callister and Frank Callister were charged with assaulting James Callister, and also with assaulting Archibald Callister. Defendants wore each fined ,£5 and costs on each charge. A case Frank Callister v. James Callister, alleged assault, was dismissed. For a breach of a maintenance order, W. M. Stratford was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on one charge, and to three days' imprisonment on a second charge, tho warrant to be suspended if arrears aro paid.
