MINISTERS' SALARIES

I' DISCUSSION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. ; (Rcc. August 8, 1,20 a.m.) London, August 6. In the House of Commons, Sir Donald Maclean will move the rejection of a Bill increasing tho salaries of five Ministors from .-82000 to .£SOOO, until the Government produces a policy of alLround economies. Members of all parties denounced the increase at a timo when the Government was urging the people to economise. Mr. Bonar Law admitted that the Bill was unpopular, but it was urgently needed. It ivas good business to pay well to get the work well done. Ministers' salaries should bo commensurato with their abilities and the importance of the work. He, too, offered to postpone tho remaining stages until tho autumn if the Bill ■js read a second timo now. Tho Bill was read a second time by 176 votes to 83. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu.
